- Shamanur Shivashankarappa is a scholar, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and member of the Indian National Congress political party. He has contributed to the betterment of society for over 60 years and has been involved in politics for more than 30 years.
- Following his completion of secondary education, he entered the domains of education and politics.
- In 1970, he was involved in the co-production of a Kannada film called Boregowda Bangalorige Banda.
- From the 1980s onward, he held the position of Treasurer for over three decades within the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). In 1969, he took on the role of Municipal Councillor in the Davanagere municipality.
- He became a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, representing the Davanagere constituency, in 1998 and served till 1999. He later held the position of Minister of Horticulture and Agricultural Marketing from 2013 to 2016. He has also been a member of the Legislative Assembly in Karnataka, representing the Davangere South constituency since 2004.
- As the chairman of the Bapuji Educational Association, he oversees a network of over 50 educational establishments, such as the Bapuji Institute of Engineering & Technology, JJM Medical College, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, and Colleges of Pharmacy, Law, and Polytechnic.
