Some Lesser Known Facts About Shubhankar Sharma

While growing up, he used to play soccer, basketball, golf, and cricket.

Before getting he started playing golf, he wanted to join the Indian Army.

He started playing on the recommendation of Anirban Lahiri‘s father, Tushar Lahiri. Tushar Lahiri was his mother’s obstetrician who had served as an army doctor in the same station, where Shubhankar’s father was posted.

He started playing golf when he was 7 years old. He decided to play golf as a career when he was 12 years old.

In 2012, he won the All India Amateur Championship at the age of 16.

He considers Tiger Woods, Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal, Jyoti Randhawa, Phil Mickelson, and Anirban Lahiri to be his inspirations.

He considers DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon, Haryana, as his second home as he played a lot of golf matches between 2012 and 2016 there.

He finished in the top-10s in his PGTI (Professional Golf Tour of India) rookie season in 2013.

Before becoming a professional in 2013, he was ranked first in the juniors.

He is a vegetarian and often travels with pre-prepared vegetarian meals on tours. In an interview, he stated that he eats dry fruits, bananas and energy bars for protein when on a golf course.

For protein intake in his diet, he drinks a protein drink twice a day. He also focuses on eating spinach and broccoli.

In 2014, he joined Delhi University’s School of Open Learning and pursued a B.A. (Hons.) degree in Political Science. He was not able to complete the final part of his course at the University as the exam dates clashed with the timings of his European tours.
