Raids by income tax officials
In 2016, tax officials began inspecting properties linked to Natham R Viswanathan, a former minister, and Vetri, due to suspicions of unpaid taxes and their possible involvement in financial misconduct related to a businessman before the Tamil Nadu Assembly election on 16 May 2016. The investigations were triggered by evidence found at the businessman Anbunathan's place, indicating he might have ties with Viswanathan and Vetri Duraisamy. The tax officials searched three of Vetri's properties, including a farmhouse. They also conducted searches at various locations of a large jewelry chain and a well-known hospital across the country to investigate potential tax evasion. [4]Business Standard
