Some Lesser Known Facts About Yash Thakur

• Yash Thakur is an Indian cricketer. He played for the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League.

• In an interview, he revealed that India’s victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup inspired him to be a professional cricketer. Although he played amateur cricket before 2011, India’s performance deeply inspired him and made him enrol at a professional coaching centre.

• In 2011, Thakur joined the Pravin Hinganikar Cricket Academy (PHCA) in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Initially, he preferred batting over bowling and played as a batter in some of the underage tournaments; however, later, he realised his potential for bowling and shifted his focus to develop himself as a bowler at the PHCA academy under the guidance of the coaches, Pravin Hinganikar and Nitin Kanhere.

• Yash was an ardent fan of the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and followed in his footsteps and started playing cricket as a wicketkeeper batter. Yash’s first coach, Pravin Hinganikar, suggested he switch from wicketkeeping to fast bowling.

• In 2013, he was named to the Chhattisgarh Under-16 team for the 2013-2014 season of the Vijay Merchant Trophy. On 1 December 2013, he was named to the playing eleven of the Chhattisgarh Under-16 team against Rajasthan Under-16 in the opening match and scored 26 runs from both innings.

• He was part of the Chhattisgarh Under-16 team for their group-stage match against the Madhya Pradesh Under-16 team and scored three runs from two innings; this was his final appearance in the 2013-2014 Vijay Merchant Trophy.

• Yash played five matches for the Chhattisgarh Under-19 team in the Cooch Behar Trophy between 14 November 2016 and 19 December 2016 and scored 263 runs with an average of 32.87.

• Later, Thakur was part of the India Under-19 team for the 2016-2017 Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup. On 15 December 2016, he was named to the playing eleven against the Malaysia Under-19 team and took two wickets from five overs at an economy of 3.80; this was his debut match in the Under-19 ODI format. • In 2018, he was part of the Vidarbha team, which participated in the 2018-2019 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He played three matches in the tournament between 30 September 2018 and 6 October 2018; he took four wickets at an economy of 4.36 but did not score any runs.

• Later, he was named to the Vidarbha team for the 2018-2019 season of the Ranji Trophy. On 28 November 2018, he made his debut in the Ranji Trophy and took his maiden wicket in the competition against Chhattisgarh; this was also his first-class debut match.
