Controversies	• In 2008, he was criticized for frequently criticizing his employers. • In 2008, he delivered a controversial statement against the match referee Mike Procter during the Sydney Test. • On 24 September 2020, during an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, he attracted controversy after he came up with a comment involving Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma in the commentary box. In the match, Kohli dropped his KXIP counterpart, KL Rahul, twice; once in the 17th over at deep square-leg when he was batting on 83 and then again in the 18th over when he was on 89. Moreover, Kohli managed just a run off five balls against Kings XI Punjab. While making a comment on Kohli's under-performance, Gavaskar said, “Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hain." (Virat Kohli has only trained against Anushka’s balls during the lockdown).
