Some Lesser Known Facts About Shankar Aswath
- Shankar Aswath is a South Indian actor and Uber cab driver.
- He started his career as an actor and appeared in various Kannada films like ‘Nirbandha’ (1996), ‘Nandhi’ (2002), ‘Malla’ (2004), ‘Raaj the Showman’ (2009), and ‘RangiTaranga’ (2015).
- He worked in the South Indian films for almost 25 years, but failed to get good opportunities. Later, he joined Uber (a private cab-operating firm) in Bengaluru as a cab driver. In an interview, he talked about working as a cab driver, he said,
My father (K.S. Ashwath) has taught me to lead a self-sufficient life without making any compromises. I will not go around asking people for help. There is a need for everyone to work until they are healthy and save money for the autumn years of life. I drive cabs when there is no work in the industry for which I have no regret.”
- Shankar believes that it is because of the generation gap in the film industry that he did not get good opportunities. Though he is not ashamed of his job, he wears a cap to hide his identity while working as a cab driver to avoid unnecessary questions about his identity asked by his customers. In an interview, he said,
My father would have been proud of my job. I halted my Uber cab to pay obeisance to his photograph hung on the compound wall of a street of Mysuru.”
- He participated in the TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss Kannada 8’ in 2021 along with other contestants like Shubha Poonja and Nidhi Subbaiah.
