  • Sushmita Dev is an Indian lawyer and politician who was appointed as a member of the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal on 4 October 2021. In 2014, she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Silchar in Assam in the general elections on a ticket of the Indian National Congress.
  • Sushmita Dev belongs to the Sylhet district of Bangladesh. Sushmita Dev’s father, Santosh Mohan Dev, was a senior Congress leader from Sylhet, Bengal. Her mother, Bithika Dev, was a legislator of Silchar of Assam assembly.
  • In 2009, Sushmita Dev was appointed as the chairperson of Silchar Municipal Board, Assam. She served in this position till 2014. From 2011 to 2014, she served as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly. In 2014, Sushmita Dev was elected as the Member of Parliament from the Silchar constituency and held the position till 2019 on the ticket of the Indian National Congress. Sushmita Dev was appointed as a member of the Committee on Empowerment of Women, a member of the Standing Committee on Science & Technology, and Environment & Forests in September 2014.
