• Khan Mubarak was an Indian gangster and trusted associate of underworld kingpin Chhota Rajan, who wielded influence over multiple regions including Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Ambedkar Nagar, and Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. Khan was suffering from a lung infection and pneumonia during his imprisonment at Hardoi Jail in Uttar Pradesh. In 2023, while seeking treatment at the Hardoi district hospital, Khan died of dehydration.

• Khan Mubarak’s descent into the criminal underworld began during his days at the University of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His entry was marked by an audacious act at a cricket match where he didn’t hesitate to shoot the umpire, having been declared out. His elder brother, Zafar Supari, who himself entered the world of crime at the age of 15, significantly influenced Mubarak’s choices. Zafar’s links with the infamous underworld kingpin Chhota Rajan played a critical role in shaping Mubarak’s career. • Chhota Rajan’s major adversary was Munna Bajrangi, a politician from Eastern Uttar Pradesh who doubled as a contract killer and gang leader. In 2006, under Rajan’s command, Mubarak masterminded a post office heist in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. This plan, however, was foiled by a security guard who defended the premises with gunfire. Nevertheless, Mubarak was able to escape. The animosity between Mubarak and Bajrangi reached a boiling point when Mubarak attempted to extort Rs. 25 lacs from a doctor closely associated with Bajrangi. This ignited a brutal gang war that drew the increased attention of the police. With the law breathing down his neck, Mubarak found it prudent to leave Uttar Pradesh. • Khan Mubarak was subsequently implicated in the 2006 Kala Ghoda shootout in Mumbai. This incident was primarily centred around drug traffickers Amjad Khan and Himanshu Chaudhary, who were linked to Chhota Rajan. The duo initially borrowed Rs. 50 lacs from Ahjaz Pathan, a trusted aide of Chhota Rajan; however, after returning the borrowed money, they opted to switch allegiances with Dawood Ibrahim, an Indian mafia gangster and a formidable adversary of Rajan. Following this, both Amjad Khan and Himanshu Chaudhary found themselves in police custody in relation to another case. Enraged by their betrayal, Pathan approached Chhota Rajan, urging him to take retribution. Chhota Rajan tasked his close confidants, Zafar Supari and Rajesh Yadav, with the mission; they were later joined by Khan Mubarak. On 16 October 2006, Khan Mubarak and other shooters ambushed the van carrying Amjad Khan and Himanshu Chaudhary to a court hearing near the Kala Ghoda area. Amjad Khan and Himanshu Chaudhary died in the incident. • In 2018, a video of Khan Mubarak from Faizabad jail garnered widespread attention. In the video, Mubarak alleged that he was being unfairly targeted and harassed by the police. He further warned that any harm directed towards him would result in severe consequences for the nation’s military and law enforcement personnel.

• Alongside Khan’s extensive criminal endeavours, his family members were not exempt from engaging in illicit activities. In 2022, the Tanda Kotwali police apprehended his sister and niece. Investigations uncovered that Khan’s niece and sister played pivotal roles in managing the financial aspects of Khan Mubarak’s gang.
