Some Lesser Known Facts About Raju Pal

• Raju Pal was an Indian politician, who was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in UP in 2004. He was murdered in the Sulem Sarai area of Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh in 2005.

• Raju Pal’s path crossed with Pooja Pal’s at a private hospital, where she was employed. Raju was recovering from a gunshot wound, and Pooja was entrusted with his care. As they spent time together, their initial acquaintanceship evolved into a romantic relationship, culminating in their marriage in 2005.

• Raju Pal’s victory over Atiq Ahmed‘s younger brother Ashraf alias Khalid Azim in the 2004 by-election intensified their political differences, and it eventually escalated into a personal conflict; Raju Pal won the seat from the Phulpur constituency. On 25 January 2005, as Raju was driving home from Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, Allahabad, he was attacked by a group of armed assailants, who shot him 18 times, leading to the death of Raju Pal and two other people named Sandeep Yadav and Devi Lal. Reportedly, Raju was shot dead with around 18 bullets along with two other men named Sandeep Yadav and Devi Lal. Atiq Ahmed was accused of being the mastermind behind his murder.

• The murder case of Raju Pal once again gained attention on 24 February 2023, following the killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness to the crime, near his residence in the Sulem Saray locality of Dhoomanganj, Uttar Pradesh. Reportedly, Umesh and his two gunners were attacked by henchmen of Atiq Ahmed who threw crude bombs at them.
