- During the investigation, the apprehended individuals admitted to being members of Gufran’s gang, with Gufran managing to escape capture. They confessed to engaging in theft and robbery, using the stolen money to meet their daily needs. They had even planned to rob a petrol station before being arrested. When questioned about the money and firearms found in their possession, they revealed that Gufran, along with other gang members, was responsible for the murder of Tanveer. The motive behind the killing was the accused’s dissatisfaction with the news of Tanveer’s upcoming marriage to a close friend of one of the gang members.
- On 1 September 2023, Gufran and his gang committed another murder. Their target was a man named Tantrik Lalta Prasad. According to the local police, Anil Kumar Mishra from Balipur allegedly hired contract killers to murder Lalta Sharma. Mishra was frustrated with Sharma’s constant demands for more money. Mishra had sought Sharma’s help in treating his wife, who had been unwell for several years. Mishra claimed to have already paid Sharma a sufficient amount, but Sharma continued to demand more money despite his wife’s lack of improvement. Mishra also accused Sharma of having malicious intentions towards his wife and intruding on their household without invitation.
- During police interrogation, Mishra admitted to plotting the scheme to eliminate Sharma. He contacted a contract killer named Shahzad Alam, also known as Bhaiya, who demanded Rs 2.5 lakh for the murder. Mishra paid an advance of Rs 50,000 to Alam. The police revealed that Alam and his four accomplices initially planned to carry out the murder on Rakshabandhan, but changed their plans upon seeing many visitors at Sharma’s house. Later, Gufran visited Sharma’s house under the pretence of seeking treatment for his sick brother. However, Lalta Sharma declined to accompany him, stating that he had to travel to Mumbai for work. On 1 September 2023, the four hired killers returned to Sharma’s house. Gufran convinced Sharma to ride on his motorcycle, claiming it was for further treatment.
