Controversy | Accused of being involved in a sex scandal In March 2019, a MMS went viral on various social media platforms and the person in the video was claimed to be Tapir Gao; however, days after the incident, Gao refuted all the allegations against him and said that the person in the video was not him but a lookalike and also said that the incident was nothing more than a cheap way to destroy his reputation. He also claimed that he had been a victim of blackmail as days before the video surfaced online, he received the video in a pen drive and in return the blackmailer asked for a ransom of Rs 15 crore. - While pursuing his graduation at the Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh, he took part in various community development activities in his hometown which led him to join politics later.
- In 1994, he was appointed as the President of the Youth Congress in Arunachal Pradesh and held the position until 1996.
- In 1996, he was appointed as the President of the Arunachal Congress Youth Front (ACYF) and held the position until 1998.
- In 1999, he became a state executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the same year, he became a member of the National Council of the party and remained in the position until 2003.
- In 2020, during a Lok Sabha session, Tapir Gao suggested creating a new political map of India which includes certain areas of Arunachal Pradesh likeHadigra Dakahru Pass and Galai Tagaru Pass which were missing from the political map of India. He raised the issue during the Zero Hour of the session.
