• After Ranjana Jha married Udit Narayan in 1984, Udit expressed his desire to become a Bollywood playback singer and moved from Bihar to Mumbai to try his luck in singing.

• In 1988, he won the Filmfare Award for the song Papa Kehte Hain from the Hindi film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
