• He wrote his first poem in class 11, but he never saw writing as a career back then.

• During childhood, he had a desire to do something in the films, but he did not know how to get into the industry and how to get to Mumbai. As a child, he even thought of becoming an actor, but that idea faded with time.

• He read writers such as Premchand and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay as a child and their works were quite memorable to him.

• Gaurav was good in studies and got into IIT Roorkee, Uttarakhand. It also became a way for him to step out of his town.

• In his first year at IIT Roorkee, he tried to join the dramatics club but got rejected in the final round, which disappointed himm at the time.

• Gaurav then participated in the college fest Kshitij, during which he began to take poetry and short story writing more seriously. By his second or third year he had even written a novel.

• Gaurav started posting his poems on a blog. During summer breaks, he also approached some publishers in Delhi but didn’t get any response. Nevertheless, he kept on writing.

• Gaurav read the novel Midnight Children by Salman Rushdie in college, which captured his interest in its history and fantasy and changed his perception of writing.

• As his interest in films grew, Gaurav noticed a change in Hindi cinema through films like ‘Maqbool’ (2003), ‘Omkara’ (2006), and ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006). He was also inspired by filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap with their new and bold style.

• He was also part of an online community called ‘Passion for Cinema,’ where filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, and Neeraj Ghaywan shared ideas, which inspired him further.

• During his last year at IIT Roorkee, Gaurav chose to apply to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and trained to take the entrance exam with the help of his seniors on Orkut.

• During the same time, he got placed in a networking company in Gurgaon and joined the job while waiting for his FTII results.

• Gaurav eventually cleared both the exam and interview for a film direction course at FTII, but chose not to join as he did not want to study for several more years.

• Gaurav left the job after working for about six to seven months as he was not getting time to write which made him feel “imprisoned.”

• He then began writing regularly for magazines and newspapers. He also wrote film reviews for the news magazine Tehelka.

• After finishing college, Gaurav started watching world cinema by renting films from a website called ‘seventymm.’ He watched films of directors such as Wong Kar-wai, Akira Kurosawa, and Ingmar Bergman during this period, and this enabled him to learn more about cinema.

• In 2016, his screenplay ‘Nisaar’ was selected for Drishyam–Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab.

• Gaurav worked as a lyricist for films like ‘Daas Dev’ (2018) and ‘Veere Di Wedding’ (2018).

• His work as a writer for the crime drama film ‘Article 15’ (2019) was well-received.

• In 2021, he wrote the story of the political thriller television series ‘Tandav,’ which streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
