• J. C. D. Prabhakar has acted in many theater plays as a child.

• According to him, he played the role of Veerapandia Kattabomman when he was in fifth and eighth class. He once wrote his childhood memories in a social media post. He wrote,
  

  When I was a child, when I was in the fifth standard, I first went on stage to act as Veerapandia Kattabomman. When I was in the eighth standard, I was taken to AVM Studio to act out the dialogue of Veerapandia Kattabomman.”

• During his college days at the Loyola College, J. C. D. Prabhakar served as a Secretary of Tamil Society from 1972 to 1973.

• After completing his formal education, he joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party led by politician Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran (MGR).

• In May 1980, J. C. D. Prabhakar was elected as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Villivakkam constituency. He served in the position till 31 December 1984.

• In 1984, he contested from the Villivakkam constituency on the ticket of AIADMK and lost. He was defeated by his opponent V. P. Chintan, a CPI(M) party candidate.

• In 1988, after the death of MGR, the party was divided in two parts. J. C. D. Prabhakar then supported the group led by Janaki Ramachandran.

• After that, he rejoined AIADMK under the leadership of Jayalalithaa.

• In 1989, J. C. D. Prabhakar again contested from the same constituency and lost to his opponent W. R. Varadarajan, a CPI(M) candidate.

• During the 2011 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, he contested from the Villivakkam constituency and won. He defeated his opponent and then sitting Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan.

• From 23 May 2011 to 21 May 2016, J. C. D. Prabhakar served as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

• He has worked as the President of the All India Chess Federation (AICF).

• J. C. D. Prabhakar once hosted the FIDE World Chess Championship Match in Chennai for India.

• In June 2014, he quit the position.

• After that, J. C. D. Prabhakar started working as party’s organisational worker when Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

• On 12 May 2026, J. C. D. Prabhakar made headlines when he was nominated for the post of the 15th Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

• He was the only leader whose nomination was filled for the Speaker’s post. Therefore, Prabhakar was unanimously elected for the position. Reportedly, no other nominations were filled.
