| Controversies | Links to Sidhu Moose Wala Murder In 2022, Shahzad Bhatti was charged for providing weapons for the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. In 2022 and 2023, he was seen more involved in pushing illegal weapons, hand grenades and drugs from Pakistan into India via drones along the country's border, Indian agencies said. He shared a photo of Moose Wala's mother and younger brother on Instagram on 29 May 2025 in an Instagram story. He said that he will seek revenge for the singer's death. Bhatti further alleged Sidhu was killed after being paid ransom and he knew those responsible and how the entire planning was done. Using social media to organize terror activities in India Agencies kicked off a major crackdown during the first week of May 2026 which included Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Over 500 mobile numbers and social media accounts were monitored by the security agencies. More than 40 people were arrested in border areas of Punjab. The Haryana STF detained and questioned around 90 youths. More than 20 people were called in for questioning in Delhi, with overall 481 suspects arrested. The Maharashtra ATS on 13 May 2026 raided almost 40 places in the state and arrested 53 people who were allegedly in contact with the accounts associated with Shahzad Bhatti's network online. No such incriminating material was retrieved and there were no FIRs. Three of the accused persons in Bhatti's module have been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on 31 May 2026. The arrested persons, apart from Nepali national Anag Kami Lama (66), are Vijay alias Shooter (23) of Uttar Pradesh, Nitish Paswan (23) and Taoqeer Rizwan Ahmad Shaikh (27) of Jharkhand, and Sajid Mehboob Shaikh alias Arbaz Khan (27) of Maharashtra, Harvinder Singh (28), Gagandeep Singh (28) and Manjeet Singh (23) of Punjab. They were found with four hand grenades, two pistols (Glock), 24 live cartridges, a stolen motorcycle and a stolen scooter, Special Commissioner of Police Anil Shukla told a media briefing. |
