Some Lesser Known Facts About Swami Govind Dev Giri

• Swami Govind Dev Giri was born in Belapur village of district Ahilyanagar of Maharashtra.

• He was raised into a family with a long tradition of spiritual learning and religious practice.

• Swami Giri completed his early education in his native village.

• At the age of 17, he gave his first sermon on the Bhagavad Gita in his village. After his sermon, he continued giving talks on Hindu scriptures and spiritual subjects in different parts of India.

• Later, he joined Tatvagyan Vidyapeeth, founded by Pandurand Shastri Athavale. the founder of the Swadhyaya movement. He completed his master’s degree in philosophy.

• After his studies at Tatvagyan Vidyapeeth, he went to Varanasi for further studies and studies subjects including the Vedas, Upanishads and Indian philosophy. He earned the title of Darshanacharya.

• In 1980s, he began giving public spiritual discourses under the name Acharya Kishoreji Madangopal Vyas and talked subjects from the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Srimad Bhagavat, and other Indian scriptures.

• In 1986, Govind Dev established Shri Krishna Seva Nidhi, an organisation associated with charitable and social-service activities.

• In the same year, he founded Geeta Parivar in Sangamner, Maharashtra. The organisation later became closely associated with spreading the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, among children and adults.

• In 2000s, Swami Govind Dev Giri founded Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar Gurukul.

• On 30 April 2006, he formally accepted Paramhans Sanyas, on the banks of the Ganga at Haridwar. After taking Sanyas, he became widely known as Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj.

• From 2006 to 2010, after becoming a sanyasi, he continued his work in spiritual education, public discourses, charity and the promotion of the Bhagavad Gita.

• In 2026, when the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust faced a major organisational crises on allegations of donation handling, Swami Govind Dev Giri supported to take strict actions against anyone found guilty.

• After the crises, in July 2026, Champat Rai resigned as general secretary of the trust and Krishna Mohan temporarily handled the general-secretary responsibilities.

• On 2 September 2026, Swami Govind Dev Giri was appointed as the General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust after the trust carried out a major leadership reconstruction.

• As of 2026, along with his responsibilities with the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, he is known for his decades long work in spiritual education, Bhagavad Gita teaching, Sanskrit, and Indian Philosophy, public discourses, charity and educational institutions.
