Some Lesser Known Facts About Alka Nath

  • In 1996, she was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha from the Chhindwara Constituency of Madhya Pradesh as a candidate of Indian National Congress.
  • When Kamal Nath was charge-sheeted in the Jain Hawala Case, he was denied the ticket to contest by the party’s high command. Hence, Kamal Nath fielded her wife, Alka, so that Congress does not lose a seat in Chhindwara.
  • Despite becoming an MP, Alka claims to be a private person and does not like politics much. In an interview, she quoted, “I am not interested in politics I am contesting only for technical reasons. Kamal Nath has been and will continue to be your candidate.”
  • As per the reports, Kamal Nath and Alka Nath barely speak to each other. They travelled in different cars to the same destination during the 1996 elections. BJP leader, Chandrabhan Chaudhary brought the point in light when he stated, “The husband and wife have come together only to fool you all into voting for her, you know that they are hardly on speaking terms.” [1]Source: IndiaToday
  • After Kamal Nath’s name was cleared from the Hawala Case, Alka resigned in 1997.
