ControversyBooked in a Murder Case by the CBI
Reportedly, in 2023, Anil Sharma, along with six others, was booked in connection with the murder of a former secretary of a renowned educational institute in Bihar that took place in August 2014. Dr Sharad Chandra, the then secretary of Balika Vidyapeeth in Lakhisarai, Bihar, was shot dead while he was reading a newspaper in the balcony at his residence in the university campus. Initially, the case was investigated by the local police, but it was later handed over to the Bihar Police's Crime Investigation Department (CID) in October 2014. Reportedly, the single-member bench of justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad at the High Court of India ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter. The CBI released its first information report (FIR) which read,
It has been alleged that in August 2009, Anil Sharma, MD of Amrapali Group, had usurped the trust of Balika Vidyapeeth with the help of Rajendra Prasad Singhania, Dr Praveen Kumar Sinha, Shyam Sunder Prasad, and Shambhu Sharan Singh and the deceased was removed forcibly and since then a dispute was going on between both the parties."
