  • Since school, Dissanayake has been active in politics with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna party.
  • Dissanayake considers Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin as his political idols.
  • While studying at the Thambuttegama Central College, Dissanayake was the first student to be chosen for admission into the university.
  • Just after three months of joining Peradeniya University, Dissanayake left the university due to threats.
  • Dissanayake is an ardent believer of Neo-Marxism.
  • Dissanayake was involved in the JVP insurrection between 1987 and 89 against the “imperialist and capitalist” regime of then-Presidents Jayawardene and R Premadasa.
