- During his school days, Edavela Babu actively participated in extracurricular activities and won many prizes. He received a scholarship after he won a Folk Dance competition at the 17th State School Youth Festival in 1977.
- In college, he participated in many dance competitions and secured 1st place in dance from 1980 to 1983, representing Christ College, Irinjalakuda, at the Calicut University Youth Festival.
- After that, Malayalam film director Sri Mohan once noticed his talent and gave him a role in the film Edavela in 1981, which became a turning point in his life.
- Edavela Babu then went on to act in more than 100 films, including one Hindi film Meena Bazar in 1991.
