• Kapil Sangwan joined the underworld in 2016. He became known for extorting money from local businessmen in Southwest Delhi and became a rival to the feared criminal Manjeet Mahal. Kapil was on the run from the law until Rajasthan Police arrested him after a shootout, and he was sent to jail in 2016.

• In 2019, Kapil Sangwan was released on parole for a month. During this time, his associates organized a large party at a farmhouse in Najafgarh, which was built on government property. The party was attended by criminals from Southwest Delhi and Haryana. However, before Kapil could arrive, the Crime Branch raided the party and arrested 22 gang members. After his parole ended, Kapil did not return and went missing. His family members were also unaware of his whereabouts, according to a senior officer. The officer said,
  

  Kapil didn’t turn up at the party and went underground even after his parole ended. When police checked with his family members, they found he was missing.”

   

• In 2020, Kapil escaped from India to London using a fake passport. Once there, he began operating a criminal network in India.

• On 25 February 2024, Nafe Singh Rathee, a leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was killed near Bahadurgarh railway crossing in Jhajjar. The incident happened when his car was stopped at a block. Unknown people in an i10 car shot at him, leading to his death.

• On February 26, 2024, Kapil Sangwan posted on Instagram, taking full responsibility for the incident. He stated that his men were behind the attack and also mentioned that if the police had done their job well, he wouldn’t have resorted to such actions. His post read,
  

  Ram ram sare bhaiyo ko Jo iss sunday ko Nafe Singh rathee ka murder hua hai wo maine kerwaya hai. Iski wajhe Nafe or Manjeet Mahal ki gheri dosti hai. Manjeet mahal ke bhai sanjay ke sath property kabza kerne ka kaam kerta tha jo bhi mera dushman ke sath hath milaya ga uska anjam yhi hoga. Mera jija or mera dosto ke murder mai isne mahal ko support kiya tha. Inki dosti ka mai sath mai photo daal rha hu. Jo bhi mera dushmano ko support keraga mai uske dushmano ko support kerunga or puri 50 goliya uska intzar keragi. Nafe Singh rathee ne power mai hoker jitne logo ki hatya or property kabza keri pura bahadurgarh ko pta hai lakin koi kuch nhi bool paya iski power mai hone ki wajha sa. Ye jo police itni active hai mera jija or dosto ke murder per itni active hoti tho mujhe crime kerne ki jarurat nhi padhti. Kapil sangwan nandu.”
