  • Rao had an interest in politics since childhood. He is a senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), serving the party since 1990. He was a close associate of Arun Jaitley.
  • While attending Kendriya Vidyalaya in Picket, he became actively involved in politics during the Emergency in India from 1975 to 1977.
  • When he was pursuing his bachelor’s at Railway Degree College, he was elected President of the Students’ Union (affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, ABVP) for three straight years.
  • He belongs to a family of educators; his father served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Osmania University.
  • When Rao was pursuing his law degree, he was elected as secretary (ABVP) of Osmania Law College Student Union for two years.
  • During his student life, due to his advocacy nature, he was jailed 14 times. Rao had also attacked physically several times, including a grievous assault in the university library that left him hospitalised for weeks.
