  • Neeraj Goyat was born in an agricultural Haryanvi family. He was short in height during childhood and did running and played basketball to increase his height. He used to participate in school-level races of 800, 1000, and 1500 metres.

  • He was a very mischievous kid. He and his sister were once cutting grass in a chaff-cutter machine and accidentally cut a small portion of his sister’s finger in the machine.
  • He did not enjoy those sports and started boxing to gain strength in case he got into a fight. He later heard about an Indian Army trial for sportspersons which he attended and got selected.
  • In 2006, he joined the Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune as a cadet where he trained in boxing.

  • He won a gold medal at the youth nationals in 2008 and won medals in the 2011 National Games and the 2012 National Championships.
  • In 2010, he joined the Indian Army and worked at the Artillery Centre, Hyderabad for 3 years.
  • He also competed in the World Military Games held in Brazil in 2011.

  • When he failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics, he decided to leave amateur boxing in 2011 in search of better career opportunities in professional boxing.
  • He used to watch videos of various professional boxers, particularly Mike Tyson while training which further inspired him to become a professional boxer.

  • Goyat could not find any fight in his initial years and had to fight some Mixed Martial Fight (MMA) fights in the Super Fight League (SFL).
  • He later got a fight in China with the help of Kolkata-based boxer and celebrity trainer, Mujtaba Kamal.

  • He lost his first professional fight, drew the next two, and lost the 4th fight. Goyat then went on a 9-match winning spree before losing a match. After that, he again had an 8-match winning spree. He has also won the WBC Welterweight Championship title thrice in his boxing career.

  • He later got a job as a ticket checker in Indian Railways in Agra. He often travelled between Agra and Delhi to balance his job and boxing career.
  • In 2017, he shot a boxing match with Vineet Kumar Singh for his debut film, Mukkabaz, in the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The shot was completed in 5 hours, and due to the extreme heat, he lost around 3 kg weight while shooting that particular scene.

  • In 2017, he fought as the captain of the ‘Haryana Warriors’ team in Super Boxing League Season 1 which was aired on Sony ESPN.

  • In 2019, he was scheduled to fight against the British boxer ‘Amir Khan‘ but had a road accident due to which he missed the fight.

  • Goyat has also acted in Farhan Akhtar‘s Bollywood film ‘Toofan’ in 2021. He also did the choreography of action films and trained Telugu actors including Ram Charan for ‘RRR’ in 2022 and Varun Tej for ‘Ghani’ in 2022.

  • In July 2020, he revealed that he always carried a revolver with him due to a personal enmity.
  • Goyat has contacts with various fighters, coaches, and promotions across the world. During the initial days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he helped many students leave the country safely by sharing the phone numbers of local Ukrainian people whom he knew.

  • In March 2022, he entered politics by becoming a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He later campaigned for them in various Haryana, Delhi, and Punjab areas.
  • In March 2023, he lost a 10-round fight against Mexican-American professional boxer Jose Zepeda.

  • He made headlines in 2024 for challenging Jake Paul to a one-to-one fight. A video also went viral in which he was seen arguing with Paul.

  • In March 2024, he signed up with ‘Most Valuable Promotions’ (MVP) of Jake Paul. He was scheduled to fight against the Brazilian YouTuber ‘Whindersson Nunes’ in the same event in the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Netflix event on 20 July 2024 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, US. The event was later postponed to 15 November 2024 after Tyson suffered an injury during training.

  • He is an animal lover and owns two dogs, a German shepherd named ‘Dodgy’ and a Pitbull named ‘Johnny’.

  • He is a close friend of famous Indian Olympian boxer, Vikas Krishan Yadav. They reportedly trained at the ASI Pune and got into a fight during the initial days. They later became friends.
