- Riniki Bhuyan Sharma was born and raised in a notable family of Guwahati. Her father, Jadav Chandra Bhuyan was a renowned industrialist, economist, journalist, and philanthropist of Guwahati.
- Bhuyan’s early education was took place in Guwahati. During her school, she played tennis at national level.
- After completing her master’s in law from Cotton College, she worked as a lawyer and enrolled at Bar Council of India.
- While studying at Cotton College, Riniki Bhuyan met her future husband, Himanta Biswa Sarma. They got married in 2001, after a courtship of 10 years.

- On 5 April 2026, few days before the 2026 Assembly elections, in a press conference, Khera alleged that Riniki held multiple foreign passports, including United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, and Egypt, which expire between 2027 and 2031.
- In his allegations, he added that, she owned 2 separate properties in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She was in possession of around Rs. 52,000 crores’ worth of assets in the name of a a firm named “Riniki Bhuyan Sarma Asset Collective LLC” registered in Wyoming, a state of the United States of America.
- Soon, after Khera’s allegation Riniki and her husband, Himanta Biswa Sarma, denied the allegations on their respective social media posts, and called the allegations “malicious, fabricated and politically motivated.”
