In 2015, she started a YouTube channel known as 8 Passengers. She made videos of her family life in Utah, United States.

As of 2020, the channel had approximately 2.5 million subscribers and 1 billion views.

In 2020, the methods used by Ruby Franke to parent her children worried the viewers when her 12-year-old son revealed that he was banned from his bedroom and made to sleep on a bean bag for seven months.

Later, some of the other disciplinary methods that were used on her children were not providing food, sending a child to a wilderness camp for troubled teens, threatening to behead a stuffed toy, and telling her children that Santa Claus wouldn’t bring anything for Christmas as they were too “numb” to obey the punishments.

In 2020, a viewer launched a petition on the social awareness website Change.org for abusing her children.

In 2022, she deleted her YouTube channel and started working as a mental health coach for ConneXions. The company was run by Jodi Hildebrandt, a counsellor who was also arrested with Ruby for child abuse in 2023.

In 2022, Ruby and Jodi Hildebrandt created a YouTube channel named Moms of Truth that offered parenting guidance.

On 30 August 2023, Ruby’s son climbed out of the window and asked for food and water from the neighbour’s house. He was in a malnourished condition and had bruises all over his body.

Later, the Utah police arrested her and Jodi Hildebrandt from their home in Washington County, Utah.

After that, the emergency services came to rescue Ruby’s son and 10-year-old daughter who was also malnourished and had bruises on her body from being tied up with a rope in Hildebrandt’s house.

The Utah Division of Child and Family Services took Ruby’s four children into care.

Ruby’s son revealed that cayenne pepper and honey were used to cover his wounds.

After Ruby got arrested, both her YouTube channels were deleted and banned from the platform.

On 18 December 2023, she pleaded guilty in front of the Utah court to four counts of aggravated child abuse. Later, she pleaded not guilty to the other two counts.

Later, her journal was revealed where she described how she made her son work outdoors in extreme heat for several weeks without protection, which resulted in sunburns. She further described that her children had evil spirits in their bodies which she was trying to get rid of.

Thereafter, Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt were arrested in Ivins, Utah and later charged for the crime of six counts of aggravated child abuse.

On 20 February 2024, she was given four consecutive sentences of between one and fifteen years in prison, which meant she must serve at least four years of imprisonment.

Ruby’s sisters are also parenting influencers and have stated in an interview that they have tried to keep Ruby’s children safe.
