  • Ruturaj began his practice at an early age, and he used to practice at Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area in Pune.

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad started playing for the team of Maharashtra. He was a part of the U-16 and U-19 teams of Maharashtra. Ruturaj played for the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy for Maharashtra, which marked his debut in first-class cricket.
  • In December 2018, due to his consistent performance in the state-level matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the base price of Rs. 20 lakhs. He was a part of the 2019 Indian Premier League. [3]Outlook
  • In June 2019, Ruturaj scored 187 runs (not out) against Sri Lanka A while he was playing for India A. He received the Man of the Match award for his performance in the match.

  • In 2019, he became a part of the India Blue team’s squad for the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy.
  • In 2020, Ruturaj accompanied Chennai Super Kings to the U.A.E. for the 2020 Indian Premier League. On arrival, the whole team was tested positive for Covid-19 including Ruturaj  Ruturaj returned to practice sessions on 21 September 2020 after his recovery.

  • On 28 November 2022, while playing for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh, he smashed 43 runs in the penultimate over of the innings off the bowling of Shiva Singh; Gaikwad hit seven consecutive sixes as the fifth ball of the over turned out to be a no-ball, and the free-hit also disappeared for a six.

  • In July 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad was announced to lead India’s men’s squad at the Asian Games, to be held in Hangzhou, China.
  • He was named as the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings, replacing M.S. Dhoni, ahead of the 2024 IPL.
