- Soon, the BJP unit in Delhi demanded action against Khirwar and wrote to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena that such an officer did not deserve that post.
- After that, he and his wife both transferred were transferred through a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order. He was transferred to Ladakh, while his wife was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh.
- In January 2026, Sanjeev Khirwar was appointed as the new municipal commissioner of Delhi, three years after he was shifted out of Delhi, following a controversy over vacating the Thyagraj Stadium complex for walking his dog.
