Some Lesser Known Facts About Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa

  • During childhood, Sarabjit along with his siblings used to spend time with his mother in jail during holidays. His mother was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment in 1986 for giving an inflammatory speech which led to a confrontation between sikh protestors and the guards of the Chief Minister; a guard was even killed in that confrontation.
  • Before coming into politics, Sarabjit used to deal in selling and purchasing second-hand cars. He suffered a loss of Rs. 10 lacs in that business after which his family’s financial situation worsened.
  • Sarabjit contested in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Bathinda constituency but lost after getting 1,13,490 votes.
  • Sarabjit contested in the 2007 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections from Barnala constituency but lost after getting only 15,702 votes.
  • Sarabjit contested both in 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Bathinda and Fatehgarh Sahib but lost both elections.

  • Sarabjit contested and won the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from the Faridkot constituency as an independent candidate. He won with 2,98,062 votes at 29.38 of the total percentage, defeating Punjabi actor Karamjit Anmol who came second.
