Some Lesser Known Facts About Saumy Pandey
- Saumy Pandey is an Indian cricketer. He served as the vice-captain for the Indian U19 cricket team in 2023.
- Once in a media conversation, his father shared that Saumy was a premature baby. When Saumy was a child, he often caught a cold, cough, and headaches because of weather changes. The doctor suggested his parents introduce him to some physical activities, like cycling or swimming. His father said,
Since my wife and I returned home from work only in the evening, we had to find a suitable sport. We decided cricket would be a good option as he was inclined towards the sport. He used to keep the bat and ball close to him while sleeping as a kid.”
- When he was 5 years old, Saumy Pandey visited Haridwar with his parents. While there, a priest predicted that when he grew up, he would become either an engineer or a doctor. However, he became upset with the prediction and expressed his desire to become a cricketer instead.
- Saumy Pandey was not physically fit in his childhood. Even though he was not fit, he decided to play cricket and often consulted the doctor if it was okay for him to play cricket. He did not give up on his dream.
- When he was six years old, his father met cricket coach Aril Anthony. They decided to enrol Saumy in Vindh Cricket Academy, which was about 30 kilometres away from his hometown, Bharatpur in Madhya Pradesh.
- When he was 8 years old, he was selected for the Under-14 cricket team of DCA Sidhi for Rewa Division. Then, when he was 9, he began playing for the Under-14 team of MPCA, Madhya Pradesh.
