  • Shiv Ratan Agarwal was born into a family rooted in business of snacks in Bikaner, Rajasthan. His grandfather, Gangabhisan ‘Haldiram’ Bhujiawala, was a pioneer in the Indian snack industry. Later his father, Moolchand Agarwal, carried forward the family’s legacy in snacks Business.
  • Since childhood, Shiv Ratan showed a keen interest in the family business and learnt the art of bhujia-making under his grandfather’s guidance.
  • Despite his early exposure to the business, he completed his education only up to class 8 and then joined his family’s business.
  • In the late 1980s, dissatisfied by his family business in Rajasthan, particularly in Bikaner, Shiv Ratan made a bold decision and left Haldiram to create his own venture.

  • By 1993, Shiv Ratan renamed his venture as Bikaji Foods International. In an interview, Shiv revealed that he picked that name after getting inspiration from Bika Rao, the founder of Bikaner, and adding “Ji” as a mark of respect.

  • In an interview, Shiv Ratan mentioned that initially he faced many hurdles to achieve large scale snack production at a time. So, to overcame these problems, Agarwal travelled abroad to learn about snack manufacturing technologies.
