  • In 1987, Gupta completed his bachelor of engineering in Electronic from IIT Kharagpur.
  • In the late 1989, he earned master of technology degree in Communication Engineering and then pursued PhD in Electronic Telecommunication from IIT Kharagpur.
  • In 1990, Subrata joined Indian Administrative Services as West Bengal cadre.
  • After completing his initially training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, Gupta initially appointed as Executive Magistrate at the Land Revenue Management and District Administration department in West Bengal.
  • Later he served at various administrative posts across rural and district level governance in West Benagl.
  • In 2000, Subrata Gupta was appointed as District Magistrate of Jalpaiguri, where he handled development and administrative responsibilities in North Bengal.
