  • She met her husband P.T. Thomas after he got late for a KSU (Kerala Students Union) meeting who was the KSU state president and Uma had to sing to keep the audience engaged.
  • Initially, their parents were against their marriage as they followed different religions, Uma followed Hinduism while P.T. Thomas was a follower of Christianity.
  • Uma didn’t pursue a political career after her marriage and became a homemaker.
  • She often accompanied her husband and sang during his political campaigns.
  • She has worked as an office assistant during the creation of the Malayalam Encyclopedia Viswavijnana Kosham (Encyclopedia of World Literature).
  • In 2012, she worked as an Assistant Manager of Finance at AVT Natural Products Ltd. in Tamil Nadu.

  • She was immediately rushed to the hospital after the incident and was diagnosed with various injuries including a spinal injury and fracture in the lungs, causing internal bleeding.
  • A minister from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Saji Cherian, who also attended the event claimed that poor construction of the stage and barricades made of ribbons caused Uma’s fall and said,

    Instead of the barricade, a ribbon was tied. When I was on stage, she came up and she waved (at him). Then, when she tried to sit down, she grabbed the ribbon and fell. It was a bad fall.”
