Some Lesser Known Facts About Yash Punja

Yash Punja was born in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to a family of a good cricketing background.

His elder brother Yodhin Punja was an international level cricketer who played in UAE.

In 2015, Yodhin was the youngest male to play international cricket in UAE when he made his debut at the age of 16 years and 206 days.

Yodhin was also the captain of uae under-19. His retirement later on in the sport of cricket was caused by illness.

Yash Punja grew up in Abu Dhabi and as a seam bowler became the first person to have to train in the sport.

At Yodhin’s recommendation, he changed to leg-spin. This transformation was crucial and created a tall leg-spinner capable of creating bouncy and changes to upset batsmen.

His parents had not desired him to become a professional cricketer but Yodhin had sacrificed the game because of injury.

Punja stuck to his choice and his parents finally concurred. In 2023, Punja departed UAE and relocated to Bengaluru to train in earnest.

He enrolled in Rahul Dravid‘s cricket school, and practiced his game in the two-year program.

In 2025, Punja participated in Maharaja T20 Trophy and it was a domestic tournament in Karnataka.

In 10 matches, he had 23 wickets at an economy rate of 7.45 and was the second-highest wicket taker in the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals purchased Punja at the base price of 30 lakh in the auction of the IPL 2026 and awarded him a full contract.

Punja officially took part in IPL on 19 April 2026 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

He was used by Rajasthan as an impact player. It was his first T20 match.
