- Tanuja Chandra was born into a middle-class family in Mumbai.
- In 1995, she made her debut as a director with the TV series “Zameen Aasmaan.”
- After directing another TV series in 1996, she went on to write the script of the Bollywood film “Dil Toh Pagal Hai” which was a huge hit.
- In collaboration with Mahesh Bhatt, she wrote the screenplay of the film, Zakham in 1998.
- In the same year, she also made her cinematic directorial debut with Mahesh Bhatt‘s film, Dushman, starring Kajol as the protagonist in the film. The film did well at the box office.
- She has directed a number of movies since then, but many of them went unnoticed. Her films like, Sur – The Melody of Life (2002) and Film Star (2005) managed to perform well at the box office.
- In 2006, she directed an Indian English language film “Hope and a Little Sugar” which was entirely shot in the US.
