- Abhay hails from a Marathi family with a musical background; as his paternal grandfather was a Hindustani classical singer.
- At the age of 5, he started singing at various competitions and won many National Level competitions.
- When he was doing his matriculation, he heard Shafqat Amanat Ali‘s song “Mitwa” from the film ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006). This song made such a huge impact on his singing that he used to perform this song at various competitions he participated.
- During his second year of engineering at SRM University, he realised that he should follow his passion i.e. music. So, alongside his graduation, he joined A. R. Rahman‘s ‘KM Music Conservatory’ in Chennai; as a part-time student.
- While he was learning music at ‘KM Music Conservatory,’ he used to be a part of a Qawwali group, where his talent was first noticed by his godfather, A. R. Rahman. At that time, Rahman was looking for a fresh voice. So, he tested his voice and gave him a huge break with the duet song “Moongil Thottam,” alongside Harini from the film ‘Kadal’ (2013).
