  • Manasi Kirloskar is an Indian businesswoman. She is popular for being the daughter of Vikram Kirloskar, who was the vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor. After his death in 2022, Manasi took over as the director of the company. She has held the positions of the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Kirloskar Systems Ltd., a Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited, Kirloskar Technologies Ltd., and Toyota Tsusho Insurance Broker India Pvt. Ltd.
  • Being the only child, she used to hang out with her parents and their friends who were older in age and would discuss world matters which helped Manasi gain knowledge.
  • Since childhood, Manasi loved painting. She used to paint even when she was supposed to study for an exam, but her parents never scolded her for that.
  • When she was 13 years old, she had her first solo painting exhibition in Bengaluru, which was attended by MF Hussain. In an interview, she talked about the exhibition and said that her mother encouraged her to paint, and she organized an exhibition for her so that she could display her work to the world.

  • Apart from painting, she used to learn kathak when she was young and has given various kathak stage performances. She also learned how to play the tabla and took Hindustani classical singing lessons.
  • When she was studying in class 8, she hated the subject Maths. Her school teachers once told her that she would not clear the board exam, but Manasi hired a tutor, worked extremely hard, and passed the test.
  • At the age of 14, she started giving arts and crafts lessons at an NGO called Christel House Foundation, a private school for underprivileged children, various government primary schools, and an orphanage run by nuns who had adopted abandoned and abused girls. She also held an exhibition of works created by those children at Samukha and at Kynkyny. In an interview, she talked about working with them and said,

    Working with these children was a life changing experience. I witnessed India’s harsh reality, and in that instant, I promised myself that I would dedicate a good part of my life to giving back to society and improving lives.”

  • Her parents always supported her decision to follow her passion and dreams. When she enrolled in the design school, many people told her parents that they should not send her there and make her study economics but her parents did not listen to them and supported Manasi to follow her passion for painting.
  • She belongs to a family where seeing women working was very common. Her mother was a part of the company, her grandmother was on the board of Kirloskar Oil Engines and also Vice Chairman and MD of the Blue Diamond Hotel in Pune, and her great-grandmother was also on the boards of various Kirloskar companies.
  • After passing out from Rhode Island School, she started working in her family business. According to her, when she came back to India, many people started expecting that she would join the business and she took the responsibility of carrying the family business ahead.
  • Manasi had undergone training at the Toyota Kirloskar Motor for 3 years and later started working with Toyota Kirloskar’s Lexus Division. She learned about technical procedures, manufacturing, Japanese work culture, leading-edge quality control techniques, and commercial operations.
  • Additionally, she set up the Real Estate arm and worked with her mother Geetanjali Kirloskar to set up their Financial Services Division. The first project that she handled was under her mother, who was establishing a new tertiary care hospital in Sakra. Manasi was made in charge of all interiors – medical and non-medical of the hospital. In an interview, she said that she made the interior of the hospital very colourful. According to her, she was nervous about making this decision but thought that hospitals were depressing places and needed some colours to maintain positivity. Everyone in the office liked her idea and she received a lot of appreciation.

  • Thereafter, she became the Executive Director of Kirloskar Systems Ltd. She worked on a Rs. 1,500 crore residential project in Bengaluru’s prime locality, a Rs. 1,200 crore project for commercial spaces and a rural healthcare project.
  • After her father’s death in November 2022, she was appointed as the director on the board of Kirloskar Systems’ joint-venture firms. She served as the director on the board of the company’s JV companies Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt Ltd, Kirloskar Toyota Textile Machinery Pvt Ltd (KTTM), Toyota Material Handling India Pvt Ltd (TMHIN), and Denso Kirloskar Industries Pvt Ltd (DNKI).
  • She has also started her social impact startup called, Caring with Colour, which is an NGO that works with government schools in three districts of Karnataka. In an interview, she said that she always wanted to contribute to the education system and reform it so that children could learn with creativity. In the interview, she talked about this and added,

    About 85-90 percent of the Indian school-going population attends government primary schools, which is where CWC will unfold. We will teach the arts in a way that will help kids improve in their academics and improve the attendance ratio, use the arts as a tool to diagnose specific kinds of mental issues, and then use arts as therapy, and finally, encourage kids from the age of 14 to start ‘giving back’ to society and engage in community service. I would like to encourage every single high school in India to include community service as an integral part of the high school curriculum.”

  • While she was pursuing graduation, she became the first Young Business Champion for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations in India.

  • She got married to Neville Tata, the son of Noel Tata in 2019. Noel is the half-brother of Ratan Tata. Her husband Neville works with the food vertical of Trent Brands. Their wedding took place in Tata’s house in South Mumbai and was attended by close friends and family.
  • In an interview, she recalled an incident when one of her hospital projects was about to be completed, but the equipment in the OT got wet due to rain.
