ControversyAccused of fatal attack on Congress MLA: On 27 May 2019, Aditi Singh, the Congress MLA from Raebareli, filed an FIR against Dinesh Pratap Singh and 6 others in Harchandpur police station for open firing on her car, causing her injuries. She accused Dinesh Pratap Singh and his brothers of planning this attack in order to stop her and other Congress party leaders from attending the district council voting on a no confidence motion against Dinesh Pratap Singh's brother, Awadhesh Singh. Later, Awadhesh Singh, Rohit Singh, and Jitendra Singh were arrested by the U.P. Special Task Force.

  • Dinesh is second among the five brothers. His elder brother Ganesh Pratap Singh owns a business of brick kilns, and his second brother, Awadhesh Pratap Singh, manages a school (Mahaveer Study State) and a college (Mahaveer Institute of Technology & Management).

  • His fourth brother, Brajesh Pratap Singh is the Managing Director of ‘Malvika Cements Pvt. Ltd.’ and ‘DPS Contractors Pvt. Ltd.’ and his fifth brother Rakesh Singh is an MLA from the Harchandpur Assembly and also operates many other industries like Floor Mills, Rice Mills etc.
  • Under the Indian National Congress, Dinesh Pratap Singh remained a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 2010-2016. The party suspended him in 2017 for misbehaving with Manoj Paswan, the General Secretary of the Raebareli Congress Committee. He has also misbehaved with some other local political leaders of the Congress party.
  • In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he lost in the contest against Sonia Gandhi from Raebareli; however, his vote score of 38% out of the total vote score was the highest that any rival candidate had won in Raebareli against Sonia Gandhi until then.
