- From a young age, Vikrant Gupta aspired to become a cricketer. During his school days, he played for the Under-15 cricket team in Chandigarh.
- During his college days, Vikrant Gupta played cricket at the university and state levels.
- After graduation, he started pursuing MA in English at the Panjab University; however, he dropped out midway and began studying mass communication.
- In 1992, Vikrant Gupta was awarded a certificate from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for being a member of the Under 19 ‘Cooch Behar Trophy-winning Punjab team.
- In 1995, he played at the All India Inter University Rohinton Baria Finals in Tirunelveli.
- In May 1997, after completing his formal education, he began working as a Special Correspondent at The Indian Express and worked there till January 2003.
- In January 2003, he started working as a Senior Editor (Sports) for the India Today Group – Aaj Tak and India Today.
- He is a part of the Aaj Tak cricket team. He has played and won many local tournaments for the Aaj Tak team including Lionel Premier League in 2017.
