  • He was renamed James David Hamel after his stepfather, Bob Hamel, adopted him officially. However, he stopped using the surname Hamel after Bob and his mother separated.
  • Vance once revealed that when he was a child, his mother threatened to kill him by crashing the car in which they were travelling into a tree while driving at the speed of a hundred miles per hour.

  • Before the 2016 US Senate Elections, Vance declared his candidature against Sherrod Campbell Brown, a member of the Democratic Party. However, he later chose not to contest the elections citing familial reasons.
