When he was six years old, his father, Suresh Yellamaraju, started taking him to a local indoor golf dome. There, Sudarshan learnt to hit golf balls with rental clubs.

Sudarshan Yellamaraju later stated in a media interview that the rental clubs he first used for golf were not ideal. They were heavy men’s clubs with small heads.

According to his parents, he had a huge interest in the sport. His father did not hire him a coach as Sudarshan began learning from YouTube videos.

I would watch videos of Tiger, Rory, Adam Scott, anybody really. When you watch live golf you cannot stop it and look again. But on YouTube I could watch things again and again and try to understand what they were doing.”
He added in the same conversation that he followed a simple and slow process to learn golf. He, along with his father, followed the trial-and-error method. They tried and practised different swings many times. He said,
Some things worked and some things did not. We had to figure out what parts of the swing worked for me.”

When Sudarshan Yellamaraju was nine years old, he received his first golf kit.
- After that, he participated in the Fried Egg Golf championships, where he played his first 18-hole round at a tournament. He shot 101 in the first round.
