- Rajeev Chandrasekhar was born was born to Malayali Nair parents in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His family hails from Desamangalam in the Thrissur district of Kerala.
- His father was an Air Commodore in the Indian Air Force.
- Due to his father’s service, Rajeev did most of his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bengaluru.
- After completing his bachelor degree, in 1983, he moved to Chicago for his master’s degree.
- In 1985, he started his professional career with Intel, California as a coder, senior design engineer and a CPU architect.
- In 1991, he moved back to India and got married to his wife, Anju Chandrasekhar. She is the daughter of T. P. G. Nambiar, the founder of BPL Group.
- After marriage, he joined his father-in-law’s company, BPL Group.
- In 1994, Rajeev founded, India’s first mobile network company, Loop Mobile India Ltd, formerly named as BPL Mobile Communications. In 2005, he sold his 64% share in BPL Communications to Essar Group for Rs 700 crore approximately.
