Some Lesser Known Facts About Asad Ahmed

  • Asad Ahmed was an Indian criminal, who was involved in the murder of Indian politician and lawyer Umesh Pal. Asad, son of the Indian gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, was shot dead in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi.
  • On 28 March 2023, a court in Prayagraj found Asad’s father Atiq Ahmed and two others guilty in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case; special MP-MLA court judge Dinesh Chandra Shukla held Atiq Ahmed, Saulat Hanif, a lawyer, and Dinesh Pasi guilty in the case under Indian Penal Code section 364-A (kidnapping or abduction in order to murder). However, seven others, including Atiq Ahmed’s brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, were acquitted in the case. Later, Atiq Ahmed was brought from a Gujarat prison to Prayagraj following a 24-hour road journey by the Uttar Pradesh police.
  • On 24 February 2023, Umesh Pal was shot dead while he was getting out of the backseat of a Hyundai Creta SUV in Prayagraj; two police bodyguards, accompanying Umesh Pal, were also killed in the shootout. Asad was also wanted in Umesh Pal murder case and had a bounty of Rs. 5 lakh on his head.
  • On 13 April 2023, Asad, along with his ally Ghulam, was killed in an encounter conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) near the Pariksha Dam in Jhansi. After the encounter, foreign-made weapons were recovered from Asad and Ghulam.
  • Post encounter, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force revealed that after murdering Umesh Pal, Asad had moved to Lucknow. Later, he shifted from Kanpur to Meerut and then to Delhi. He then fled to Madhya Pradesh, and while he was on his way to Jhansi on his motorcycle, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) killed him in an encounter.
