• Gauri Spratt was born into a family of freedom fighters in Bangalore and was brilliant at studies.

• Her grandfather, Philip Spratt, came from England to India to participate in the Indian Independence Movement and later settled down in India. He was a founding member of the Communist Party of India, an accused in the Meerut Conspiracy Case and was jailed in 1929.
