Karan Tejpal then started working an assistant director in many films and television commercials after completing his formal education.

In 2006, he worked as an assistant director in the film Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
- As an assistant director, Karan Tejpal worked in two short films Bendito el fruto de tu vientre and Almost Pros in 2008.
- After that, he assisted in the making of the films Delhi-6 (2009), 3 Idiots (2009), Teen Thay Bhai (2011), and Ferrari Ki Sawaari (2012).

- Once, during a media conversation, he stated that initially, he was writing for himself, and he always wanted to become a director. He said,
I’ve always felt that directing and writing go hand in hand, but my first passion was directing. In the beginning, I was only writing for myself — just enough to bring my own stories to life.”
- In 2017, Karan Tejpal wrote a story for a film. All of his crew and cast members were ready, but the project was stopped three weeks before the start.
- After that, he decided to start working as a screenwriter, and put on hold the decision to become a director.
- In 2018, Karan Tejpal received the opportunity to work as a screenwriter for a film. He once told in a media talk that he loved screenwriting, which was an important part of his stories. He said,
