  • Kuldeep Bishnoi is an Indian politician. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2022, he served as a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from Adampur in Hisar, Haryana for the fourth time. He is associated with the Congress Central Working Committee (CWC) as its member. Kuldeep Bishnoi is the founder of the political party named Haryana Janhit Congress, which he founded in 2007 and is known as a breakaway faction of the Indian National Congress.
  • Kuldeep Bishnoi is known for being the son of former Union Cabinet Minister (Agriculture; Environment & Forests) and three-time Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhajan Lal Bishnoi. His wife Renuka Bishnoi was a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Hansi (Hisar district) in Haryana. His elder son, Bhavya Bishnoi entered into politics in 2019. Bhavya contested the legislative elections from the Hisar constituency in 2019 and lost. Bhavya was defeated by his opponent Brijendra Singh, a BJP leader and a bureaucrat-turned-politician and son of former Union minister Birender Singh.   • In 1998, Kuldeep Bishnoi was chosen as the Member of the Legislative assembly from the Adampur constituency in Haryana. Reportedly, till 2022, his family has never lost a seat in this constituency since 1968. In 2004, he contested the Bhiwani in the Lok Sabha elections in which he defeated his opponents the sons of Om Prakash Chautala (who was serving as Chief Minister of Haryana at the time) and Bansi Lal (former Chief Minister of Haryana).
  • In 2007, Kuldeep Bishnoi founded his own political party named Haryana Janhit Congress – (HJC) (BL). He was supported by his father, Bhajan Lal Bishnoi in the formation of this party soon after he was dismissed from the Indian National Congress. The reason for Kuldeep Bishnoi’s dismissal was that he made a public statement in which he blamed the then Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, for promoting the special economic zones (SEZs) on fertile land, which led to hurt the interests of farmers.

  • In October 2009, during the state assembly elections, his party contested 89 seats of the 90 constituencies in Haryana and won the seats in seven constituencies. He was the winner of the Adampur constituency and was appointed as an MLA. His father won the Hisar Lok Sabha constituency seat and became a Member of Parliament. However, soon after the results of the elections, six out of seven elected representatives of the Haryana Janhit Congress – (HJC) (BL) party transferred their support to the Indian National Congress when they were given the allure of the ministerial posts. Soon, he approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the betrayers and won. In the verdict of the case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court cited that these defectors were disqualified from being members of the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
  • The Chandigarh police lathi-charged Kuldeep Bishnoi and his party workers in March 2010 when they were protesting against the increasing rates of commercial products and unemployment. He was campaigning against the unfair government rules and policies for the farmers.

  • In 2011, Kuldeep Bishnoi’s father passed away, and soon after the death of Bhajan Lal, his party HJC entered into an alliance with BJP. The alliance was officially announced by the well-known BJP leaders BJP president Nitin Gadkari, party leader Sushma Swaraj, former Minister Prof. Ganeshi Lal, along with HJC co-founder Kuldeep Bishnoi, in a press conference. In the same year, he contested from the same constituency and defeated Ajay Singh Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Jai Prakash of the Indian National Congress.

  • In 2014, the alliance between HJC-BJP broke before the state assembly elections. HJC claimed that BJP failed to keep the terms and conditions of the alliance.
  • In 2016, Kuldeep Bishnoi merged his party, HJC, with the Indian National Congress after meeting the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Before June 2022, he was serving as a Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC). In 2018, he worked as a campaigner for the Rajasthan Assembly elections

  • In June 2022, Kuldeep Bishnoi was expelled from the Indian National Congress. A congress leader stated in a press conference that Kuldeep was expelled from the post of Special Invitee of the Congress Working Committee. He lost his post to Congress Rajya Sabha nominee Ajay Maken in Haryana. Reportedly, Kuldeep Bishnoi cross-voted in favour of JJP-backed and BJP-supported Independent candidate, Kartikeya. He was removed from all party posts in Congress. On 3 August 2022, he resigned from the Legislative Assembly and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Congress leader said,

    Congress President has expelled Shri Kuldeep Bishnoi, from all his present party positions including the post of Special Invitee of the Congress Working Committee, with immediate effect.”

  • Bhajan Lal, the father of Kuldeep Bishnoi, served as the Chief Minister of Haryana for almost eleven years. According to some media sources, Bhajan Lal had very close relations with the Gandhi family.

    At Goa, Sonali’s PA Sudhir Sangwan asked our person from where he belongs. When he told Sudhir that he hails from Hisar, Sudhir asked the person twice whether Kuldeep ji had sent him. We have serious doubts on Kuldeep Bishnoi as Sonali was his arch rival and she had contested against him.”
