Controversies | The first MP to be disqualified: On 24 November 1988, Lalduhoma was disqualified by the Lok Sabha Speaker and became the first MP to be disqualified under the anti-defection law in India as he quit the party which he represented. In an interview, talking about his disqualification, he said, "I am proud of my first defection, of that decision... [because it was] for the cause of peace in my state, because the peace process was getting delayed." Some Lesser Known Facts About Lalduhoma
- Lalduhoma is an Indian politician and a former Indian Police Service officer. Lalduhoma is the founder and president of the Zoram Nationalist Party, a regional political party in Mizoram. In December 2023, he became the 6th Chief Minister of Mizoram.
- He earned a Bachelor of Arts from North Eastern Hill University (Nehu) in Shillong, Meghalaya, in 1976. During that time, he was also employed at Chief Minister C. Chhunga’s office and attended the college during the evening. He worked as an assistant in the chief minister’s office up until 1977.
- Before he pursued his graduation, he was already married to Liansailovi and had children so he spent his free time making books, making chalet tiang, collecting water bottles and doing whatever he could to earn more money while pursuing graduation.
- After graduation, he started preparing for the Indian civil services examinations in Shillong and passed it in 1977. He was first posted to Delhi. After completing his one-year training in Delhi, he was posted to Goa as a squad leader to crush lawbreaking hippies and smugglers. To do that, he decided to live like a hippie and stay among them for some time. He lived with the hippies and spent his days doing the activities as they did for a month and finally was able to catch them. His bold approach grabbed the attention of numerous national media outlets, earning him significant recognition.
- Due to his stint in Goa, Lalduhoma was given a promotion, and he became the Deputy Commissioner of Police and was transferred to serve as security in charge of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in New Delhi in 1982.

- He convinced Laldenga to have peace talks with the Indian government when he visited him in London. Additionally, he compelled Laldenga to convey to the Mizo people that the Indian National Congress was the key player in the peace process.
- In 1984, after the Indian National Congress won 19 of the 30 seats in the Mizoram assembly, there were speculations that it was Lalduhoma who convinced MNF leader Laldenga to influence people and convince them to vote for Congress. In an interview, when the chief minister, Lalthanhawla, was asked whether the rumours were true or not he did not deny any rumours and said,
Lalduhawma, a prominent member of our party, had gone to London to meet Laldenga and taped an interview with him but the party high command had nothing to do with it.” [9]India Today
- In 1984, he was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Mizoram State Planning Board by the Governor of Mizoram at the request of Indira Gandhi. On 31 May 1984, he was appointed as President of the Mizoram Indian National Congress. Lalduhoma actively participated in various national and international forums including Friends of the Soviet Union, Indo-Mongolian Society, and the Iran-Irag Conflict.
- In 1984, he made arrangements for Ladenga to return to India. On October 31, Laldenga and Indira Gandhi were supposed to meet in the afternoon, but that morning, Gandhi was assassinated.

Lalduhoma found out that the state administration was the reason behind the postponement of the peace negotiations when he was in New Delhi; therefore along with his committee, he organized public protests in early June and a widespread hunger strike on June 23 to demand the resignation of the entire ministry. The protests forced peace negotiations, which resulted in the signing of the Mizoram Peace Accord on June 30.
