ControversiesTobacco Industry Conflict-of-Interest Allegations: In July 2022, Marriyum Aurangzeb faced controversy when she was accused of favouring the tobacco industry as Federal Information Minister because her husband, Aly Taseer, worked with Pakistan Tobacco Company. Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry claimed that she used her position to benefit tobacco companies. He alleged that her decisions helped these companies get major tax concessions, including advantages for foreign firms operating in Pakistan. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) later announced plans to try to get her disqualified and claimed she gave unfair tax benefits to her husband's company. [1]Dunya News

Anti-Terrorism Court Case and Legal Proceedings: In September 2022, a legal case was registered against Marriyum Aurangzeb after she was accused of using religious language to incite hatred against PTI leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The allegations led to a terrorism-related case being taken up by an Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore. In November 2023, the court issued non-bailable arrest warrants against her due to her repeated absence from hearings related to the case. In December 2023, she appeared before the court accompanied by her legal team, after which the court cancelled the non-bailable arrest warrants. In January 2024, the Anti-Terrorism Court dismissed the allegations against her and cleared her of charges connected to alleged anti-state speeches. [2]Dawn
