Some Lesser Known Facts About Ranjith Sreenivasan
- Ranjith Sreenivasan (1981-2021) was an Indian lawyer and politician. Along with working as state secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party OBC Morcha, he was an active member of the Alleppey Bar Association. On 19 December 2021, he was killed at his house in Vellakinar in Alappuzha reportedly by activists associated with PFI and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
- He worked as the district secretary of Bharathiya Abhibashaka Parishad, the Kerala chapter of the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad. Later, he became the state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party OBC Morcha. He also worked as an active member of the Alleppey Bar Association in Kerala.
- In the 2016 Kerala State Assembly Elections, he stood as BJP candidate from the Alappuzha constituency and received 18,214 votes but lost the elections.
- Ranjith Sreenivasan was murdered on December 19, 2021, at his Vellakinar, Alappuzha, home. He was brutally murdered in front of his mother, wife, and daughter, according to police accounts. A special team headed by Dy. SP N. R. Jayaraj of Alappuzha investigated the murder case. The prosecution was represented by attorneys Sreedevi Prathap, Shilpa Sivan, and Hareesh Kattoor, as well as Special Public Prosecutor Prathap G. Padickkal.

- Ranjith Sreenivasan’s body had 56 slashes, according to the investigation, and the prosecution interrogated 156 witnesses. Ranjith was an advocate in that court, according to the accused, and the bar there had turned down his request to represent him. Consequently, the case trial was shifted from Alappuzha Court to Mavelikkara Court by the Kerala High Court.
- To transfer the trial to Ernakulam Court and reverse the previous ruling, the accused filed a plea with the Supreme Court. The accused filed an appeal in November 2023 requesting that the trial be moved to Ernakulam, but the Supreme Court rejected it. A Kerala court sentenced fifteen individuals to death on January 30, 2024, for the murder of Ranjith Sreenivasan. The defendants were all Popular Front of India members who had been found guilty on January 20, 2024.
