- Ritu Tawde was born and grew up in Ghatkopar, a busy suburb in the eastern part of Mumbai.
- She has been interested in politics since her college days, although she did not complete her higher education, and in her second year of college, she left her studies.
- After college, she shifted her focus to community development in Ghatkpar and its nearby areas.
- She started her political journey with the Indian National Congress. In an interview, Ritu mentioned that she joined Congress because she liked their ideas for rural development then.
- After 2012, she joined the Bhartiya Janata Party and is regarded within the party as a senior corporator and an aggressive Marathi face.
- In 2012, she contested and won her first Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election from Ward No. 127 in Ghatkopar.
