Ruby Bhatia was born to Canadian parents, Harbans and Premlata Bhatia, and was adopted at the age of three by her uncle and aunt, Prem Krishan and Saroj Bhatia.

Her father, Prem Krishna Bhatia, hails from Baans Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, and her paternal family traces its roots to U.P.

Her mother, Saroj Bhatia, was born in Sialkot and moved to Delhi after the Partition.

Her maternal grandmother, Sudershan Kumari Bhatia, was multi-talented and excelled in writing, composing, singing, public speaking, and various arts and crafts.

Her maternal grandfather, Badrinath Bhatia, was a martyr who lost his life on 15 August 1947.

She grew up in Ajax, Ontario.

Alongside her studies, she trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance at the Toronto branch of the Royal Academy of Dance, London.

In 1994, she moved to India and participated in the Femina Miss India pageant, the same year Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen emerged as top winners.

Ruby then began her television career as a VJ with Channel V. She went on to host popular shows such as BPL Oye! and the Filmfare Awards.

In 1996, she co-hosted the Miss World pageant held in Bangalore alongside Richard Steinmetz.

Ruby made her acting debut on television in 1997 with the show Yeh Hai Raaz, but she left the series midway and was replaced by Deepti Bhatnagar.

Later, she appeared in several other Hindi television serials, including ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay,’ and also acted in films.

Ruby met Subhrata Dutta as her first neighbour after moving to Bombay, and over time, they developed a close bond and became Rakhi sisters.

Ruby is an avid animal lover and has a pet parrot named Cuckoo.
